Château de Bourgon

History

The name of Bourgon appears in 989 to designate the forest, "silva burcoium". Built by the family of Couesmes, the castle dates from the Hundred Years War: the thirteenth century remains an impressive stone bridge with three arches that spans the moat and the remains of a drawbridge framed by two massive towers. One of them serves as the foundation for the chapel erected in 1528 by the Montecler family. It was then that Louis de Montecler gave the medieval castle of his ancestors its high roofs and its beautiful Renaissance side courtyard (1540).
Several illustrious names follow one another, including the Laval, the Marquise de Sablé who is part of the "precious" and who has had the blue cabinet, Michel the Tellier, marquis of Louvois, minister of the war of Louis XIV, the Duke of Villeroy, Marshal of France, son of the tutor and minister of Louis XV. In the eighteenth The castle is sold to Louis Pouyvet de la Blinière for the exploitation of the forges, then to Pierre le Nicolais a merchant in canvases of Mayenne who built a beautiful common. Countess Molitor undertakes major renovations at the end of the 19th century. Since 2004 the castle is the property of the Ducatillon family
