Château de Magnanne

History

Nicknamed "the little Versailles of Haut Anjou", the Magnanne castle was built late 17th-early 18th century on special order of King Louis XIV.
The famous Mansart and Le Nôtre have been chosen to put their talents at their disposal.
It was on his personal cassette that Louis XIV built this rare pearl attributed to the Racapé family because of his loyalty to the king and his loyal service to the crown.
Thus, on this hilly and green territory of Mayenne Angevin stands this jewel completed in 1725.

Architecture

Marked by the great classicism, linked to its time and the talent of the architect, this large building stands up to the east. Its dimension imposes. His balance seduces. In the center of its beautiful façade of pure Louis XIV style, a double revolution staircase leads to a richly carved door.
Magnificent debris and original gargoyles decorate the roofs
On the left, an elegant building that once served as a cellar is adorned with a pediment finely carved with a cornucopia and vine shoots.
On the west side, the façade opens onto French gardens. It is framed by the orangery and the hunting lodge
Each of them is centered on a curvilinear pediment dedicated to hunting scenes. These are framed by four triangular pediments representing the works of the fields illustrating the four seasons.
It is true that we are there in the heart of nature. A well-preserved nature to which the current owner, who lives in the castle, has added 20,000 trees of various species. A moat comes to remind us that this Magnanne of the 18th came to succeed to an older fortress ...
