History
It is from the medieval times that we hear about the castle Hauterives. In 1209, Guillaume de Hauterives owns this large manor house and numerous outbuildings. In 1485, the Lord of Laval granted recognition of the surrender of feudal rights. And in 1515, the seigniory is raised to the rank of Châtellenie . By marriage and inheritance, the castle will be in the hands of several famous families, including the Du Bellay and the Hautefort ( Marie d'Hautefort ), who have been to the castle for a few times. years, she will be the maid of honor of Marie de Medici, she becomes the favorite of the king Louis XIII ).
Among other buildings, there is at this time, a massive dovecote of the sixteenth century (1533) and a chapel.

Finally, the estate was sold on October 3, 1737 for 131,000 livres to Jean-Baptiste Berset, son of a wealthy banker. This gives the castle its present appearance: a vast main building with seven bays connects two remaining pavilions of the manor of Hautefort; the elegant eighteenth-century facades bear its coat of arms.
On one of the pavilions of the north facade (sloping roof), there is a large spire of ridge representing Judith (Judith and Holofernes)
The chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Deliverance, was renovated in 1762 as evidenced by the date on its northern part.
Hauterives will remain in this family until 1975. The descendants of Berset kept the castle through Fitzgerald and Montalembert . The castle remained abandoned for 30 years before being restored in 2007.
